This is the development thread for the online version of Flash Duel (as opposed to the physical board game). I'm Thelo, the main programmer behind fantasystrike.com, and I'll post all updates to the game in here. Please report any bugs you find in this thread. This game is currently in beta - that means ONLY STAR MEMBERS have access to it right now. Here are the basic controls of the game, for the rulesless mode: Your hand is on the left, and the table is on the right. In rulesless mode: - Drag cards to your hand, the table, the discard, or the deck as needed, or drag your character. - Double-clicking on a card is a shortcut for "play to table". - Click on an ability to use or replenish it - The top-left shelf stores extra "tokens" you can drag to the board, for the Clockwork Soldier and Landmine abilities. You can also drag your character there when you get hit in team modes. In rules-enforced mode: - Click cards to abilities to play them. - Sometimes, click buttons as prompted. The rules of the game are here: http://www.sirlin.net/fd/rules Don't be afraid to report bugs and problems - we actively want to improve, and will never punish you for explaining bugs. When reporting bugs, don't forget to give as much information about the bug as you can. Screenshots and excerpts from the game log are often useful, and help me fix bugs faster. Enjoy the game! -- Thelo

Basically a straight port of Yomi / PS replays. Every game is automatically recorded on the server and assigned to the players involved, and you can replay them by going to the profile screen or through a replay link. (Exception: Fast-Forward Time still lets you draw to 5 before taking your extra turn.) - Some gamelog cleanup, for better readability - Moved the distance indicator below the game board, to prevent text overlap with the phase description on small screens 2012-08-20 update: - Fixed Slippery Fish crash - Fixed AI crash - Fixed disappearing Gwen sprite - Fixed Dragon Form not working 2012-08-17 update: - General Flashbot AI improvements for non-ability play. This speeds up moves and makes actions more visually obvious. - Fixed some problems with the displayed ability cards on the first turn of a new game, if a bot plays first - Fixed a lobby bug that could make you lose control of the room - Fixed a problem with text rendering 2012-08-13 update: Match timers. For timer speeds Slow / Med / Fast: - 26 / 18 / 10 s. per bar - Start with 3 bars - +1 bar at turn start - +0.5 bar on defense - +2 / +1.5 / +1 s. for every action taken - When you run out of timer, the game automatically chooses an action for you - You can't fall below 5 s. on starting any new action - A new Pause button is now in the in-game menu. UM AWESOME As I'm dicking around with this, I don't see a way to differentiate between the four basic moves. As the Second Edition makes the distinction between the actions and cards played for the actions, has that been thought about yet?
In rulesless, you can pretty much indicate which one it is just by moving your pawn accordingly. At 4 distance, you play a 4: - For Move forward: You move your token 3 spaces up (adjacent to opponent pawn). - For Move backwards: You move your token 4 spaces back. - For the Dash part of a dashing strike: You move your token 3 spaces up (adjacent), then play one or more 1s. - For an Attack: Do none of the above (this is the 99% case). At 1 distance, playing a 1: - For Move backwards: You move your token 1 space back. - For a Push: You move the opponent's token 1 space back. - For an Attack: Do none of the above (this is the 99% case). And that should cover all the cases. For the upcoming rules-enforced modes, the game will ask you to clarify any ambiguous moves.
2012-05-28 update 2: - Spectating now works - Fixed bug where the game would sometimes not start - Show Hand button: Mouse over the card icon for someone showing their hand to view their hand cards. Your teammates automatically show their hand to you when playing in teams in rulesless (P1 and P3 vs P2 and P4, or P1-P4 versus P5). - Fixed some cases of cards having the wrong border color while in hand - Fixed Grave and Jaina's abilities being gamelogged with Deathstrike Dragon ability names
2012-05-30 update: - Added a Deck size option (25, 40, 50) for rulesless mode - Deathstrike Dragon now selectable - Deathstrike Dragon has 8 abilities instead of 3 - Character select screen rearranged to show all characters on the same screen - Fixed incorrect inactivity timeout disconnections - No longer wiping Flash Duel Lobby chat on server reboot
Ok in regards to getting back the Card from Political prowess. Can I use Two Tuths and/or Flagstone Tax and then take the card back from PP?
2012-05-31 update: - Fixed player 5 sometimes being referred to as "-" and being denied character choice - Fixed game joining bugs where two players would have the same seat for a moment - Fixed ability circles 4-8 (for dragon) not being correctly updated in the UI - Reordered Dragon ability cards to better fit their ability colors - Fixed sounds always being muted while Flash Duel is loaded
If you don't shrink the website navigation bar (by clicking the arrow next to the login button) the character select screen is too small to see all of the characters.
Because random picking is not yet enforced, I will not be surprised when uses Menelker's "Into Oblivion" to destroy an opponent's unused ability on purpose and claim they have randomly made that choice. EDIT: I should not be surprised about this fact since the game is RULELESS, but I am concerned about the usage of this ability in the upcoming Flash Duel tournament here.
I think there has to be a little trust in rulesless - any of the "draw and reveal" abilities can be abused too. If you really don't believe your opponent is honest then I think at present that the only way around that is having a trusted referee watching all draws and carrying out random rolls. I can't imagine that anyone would cheat to win a for-fun competition though, where's the achievement in that?
2012-06-06 update: - Basic rules enforcement for Simple mode (no abilities) - Fixed spectators viewing non-players - Fixed character sprites sometimes facing the wrong way
Playing a rulesless game earlier and Perse ended up with Gloria's Radiant Healing with Perse's art. deluks917 plays a 3 deluks917 moves to 8 (d: 1) deluks917 plays a 1 deluks917 replenishes deluks917 uses (here's where it happened) deluks917 replenishes [9:26] Bob199: ? [9:26] deluks917: wtf
2012-06-14 update: - Full mode (rules-enforced) now available for the base 10 characters, with abilities
2012-06-18 update: - Full mode (with all abilities) now available for all characters, except Deathstrike Dragon
This was already reported I think, but when I was in a Yomi game and clicked the Flash Duel tab, there was only gray.
If BBB uses steam vent against lum, and lum rolls the dice, he still has the option to dashing strike, when steam vent says it prevents dashing strikes
2012-06-19 update: - Illegal moves now get dimmed, helping you see your options at a glance - Fixed Steam Vent vs Roll the Dice dashing strike - Fixed Vendetta having Landmine instead of Stunlock - Fixed the highlight for the current player's turn sometimes highlighting the wrong player - Fixed being unable to pass "Opponent retreats from your dashing strike" abilities - Fixed incorrect text rendering when first joining a game
2012-06-20 update: - First version of Flashbot, the Flash Duel playing bot. Flashbot is pretty bad at the game, but should be able to play full games and use abilities.
Flashbot freezes when he has to discard a card for Vendetta's Stunlock ability. But he has no problems discarding a card for Menelker's bonecracker.
2012-06-21 update: - Fixed countering Political Prowess - Fixed several non-progression cases - Flashbot upgrade (dashing strike defense, non-progression fixes) - Better last-hits gamelog
Current server implementation forces the loser of the previous round to go first while the rules say that the loser of the previous round should choose who goes first.
I attacked scarbo's arg as setsuki. He used BS to retreat. I started my next turn without drawing to 5.
ZANE Shoulder Ram does not put the card in your hand. JAINA Flame Arrow does not hit the opponent, it instead gives a message about how she can no longer attack and hangs. LUM If he tries to use Roll the Dice as part of a Dashing Strike, it instead gives a message about how he can no longer dashing strike and hangs. Possibly happens with attacks too. VENDETTA Surgical Strike is put in chatlog as Stunlock.
I played Roll the Dice, drawing a 1. I chose to use it as the dash, but it said "Cannot dashing strike anymore, returning to main action phase...", and started my turn again.
I'm a star member, but I don't appear to have access to Flash Duel or the expansion characters for Yomi.
Just to make sure you haven't missed basic things: To access Flash Duel, click the gear above the chat log to access settings, then set "See beta games" to Yes. It should appear in a tab next to Puzzle Strike. To access expansion characters for Yomi, press Shift+B on the character select screen of a custom game. Remember that these are still in development, so they will not work in QM.
2012-07-03 update: Flash Duel: - Team Battle: Dashing block implemented, including bot tactics - Dragon ability: Punish Insolence - Fixed Bubble Shield not working correctly (screwed up turn order, did not make Argagarg recover) - Fixed Flagstone Tax being mislogged as Charged Shot - More minor fixes - Fixed Giant Growth not letting you pick the cards to get - Fixed Persephone's Beckon moving recovering opponents - Fixed Dominance being playable when the opponent is neither on a dark space nor the Dragon - Fixed Shoulder Ram not putting the card in your hand - Fixed Flame Arrow not working - Fixed Roll the Dice failing on dashing strikes - Fixed Surgical Strike being gamelogged as Stunlock - Fixed Speed of the Fox triggering while recovering from Flagstone Tax Website: - "See beta games" is removed as an option, instead all subscribers see beta games automatically
According to invisime, "blocking a pair with a pair seems to result in a hit anyway." I have also encountered this bug. Also, Acrobatics still lets Vendetta retreat from a Dashing Strike (and survive) while he is on his start space.
Gwen's Shadow Plague draws to 6 even if she has 5 cards in hand. Also, a couple of things I'd like to see: UNDO BUTTON: Please oh please, misclicks really really suck. Also a warning like "Are you sure you want to get hit by x?" would be good for misclick of the pass button. GEIGER: If the discard only has two cards in it, Echoes from the Past should automatically give him the cards if the ability is not countered.
